Weekend Tales : Singapore Chicken Rice

Remember my post a couple of weeks back when I was asking for restos that serve the best Chicken Rice? Well, I got a lot of replies saying that there's this place in Cubao that serves authentic Singapore dishes. So one fine Sunday afternoon, the bf and I trooped to Cubao to try it.

We both ordered the Hainanese Chicken Rice. They serve it with ginger and chili sauce with pickled veggies on the side. Yum! The rice is packed with flavor. The chicken broth they used to flavor the rice and the chicken meat is just right.

Chicken Rice

For P95, you will really get your money's worth. It's not fine grade but if you are craving for something close to the Chicken rice in Singapura, then this one can definitely give you your fix.

Laksa

We also tried the Laksa. If you are a big fan of spicy food, then you will really like this. But be sure to have a glass of water or soda nearby. Hehe! Super anghang talaga, pramis! :) Don't tell me I didn't warn you!

I have a lot of posts in my draft that I have yet to publish, so stay tuned!

How about you, how'd your week go? Any interesting restos you've tried that you want to share?

The Original Singapore Chicken Rice is located at Unit 51 Shopwise Building, Araneta Center, Cubao. They are open until 12mn.

Random Post!

Hello everyone! Wala lang...

I'm too tired to blog but I just feel like I have been MIA for the past few days and I need to make my presence felt. Hahahaha, as if! I'm still alive. Just busy with work stuff. You see, I had a very longgggg and tiring day at work yesterday. My energy ran out faster than I had imagined so I rested my eyes for a bit. Looking at the computer screen and staring at Excel worksheets all night long can be quite a drag.

No, I'm not sleeping. I was just resting my eyes. =D

After my 10-minute power nap, I ate my 'baon'. What's on the menu (Hehehe)? Uhmmmm let's see... there's choco-covered crackers, oatmeal cookies, McNuggets, cheeseburger and coffee!!!!

So I ate....

And ate to my heart's content....

And, after what seemed like eternity, finally, the Unpure one is fool, errrr full! Burp! I'm back to being an energizer bunny! Yehey!

Isa lang ang narealize ko sa post na to - Ang lapad pala ng noo ko! LOL.

And that, my friends, is the story of my life. xx  Hahaha! Walang kwentang post no? :) Oh wait, may pahabol, an officemate gave me Piaya as pasalubong. I love Piaya!!!!

Have you tried working at night? What do you do/eat/drink to help keep you awake all night long?

Have a great week ahead people! 94 days to go until Christmas! Hoe Hoe Hoe!

Dear Santa

Dear Santa Claus,

You know what, I find you sexy. I have a strong attraction for older men. I also find your bigote sexy. I love men with facial hair. I love the feel of stubbles against my face, my neck, my uhmmmm... Ok, ok, I'll stop. Wholesome nga pala ang image mo, I forgot. Hehe. Sorry.

I am writing to you because December is just a couple of months away and I would like to give you a rundown of things that I want for Christmas. See, I'm super nice right? I don't want you to stress yourself thinking of what gift/s to get me. I have to be honest with you (I get extra pogi points for my honesty, right?), I have been naughty this year but I was mostly nice so I'm sure you wouldn't feel like it's a drag to give me these gifts. I deserve it Santa, I really do. Seriously. *pa-cute look

1. Polaroid Pogo Camera

You know how I love to take pictures of myself and the people and places around me, right? It would really be cool if you'll give me this because not only can I take pics, I can also print them in an instant. High-tech diba? I promise you, I will never use this to take naughty pictures. (I've a Canon digicam naman for that e, hahaha.)

2. Oris Watch

Santa, if you're feeling super generous this year, can you please give me that watch? As in that particular model. I've been eyeing that baby for so long but I never got around to buying it because you know, I'm poorer than a housemouse. (Ano ba sa english yung mas mahirap pa sa daga?) Hahaha! But if you're tight on budget, I understand. I can always settle for that cute hot pink Swatch Huyana watch. See, I'm no brat. :)

3. iTouch

Because I'm such a good girl, I won't ask you for an iPad. And besides I find the iPad too big for my liking. I used to have an iPod video Santa but I disposed it just a month ago because the screen got crazy. Sigh. So an iTouch from you would be nice. I can listen to all my Bossa nova mp3s while playing TextTwist! Yehey! Imagine me sitting on your lap while tinkering with my iTouch. Nice diba? Hahaha!

These are all material things, I know. But I'm just being real. I don't want to sound hypocritical by asking for world peace. Hahaha! But anyway, if you're really tight on finances this year, I would really understand. After all, Christmas is about being with loved-ones regardless if they give you presents or not. Its their presence, not their presents, that makes Christmas meaningful. (I hope I sound convincing enough so I can earn extra pogi points for Santa.) Hahaha!

Kidding aside, just being with the people that I love is all that I ask for. The wet sloppy kisses from my pamangkins, warm hugs from my siblings, unconditional love from my parents and of course, sweet-nothings and butterfly kisses from my boyfriend -- these are more than enough reasons to make me look forward to Christmas. No amount of Oris watches, iTouch and Polaroids can beat that!

Trying to be good for Santa,

-=K=-

P.S. : Santa, just a hush hush between us, but what I really like is a Nike Air Max Trainer One in white and lilac (Size 6). Hehehe, ayaw talaga tumigil. LOL!

Of Birthday Cakes and Latex Wraps

My grandmother and I share the same birth month but she passed away years ago. I'm a certified and proud "lola's girl" that's why everytime I am reminded that my birthday's almost near, I get veryyyyyy emotional. (Side Info: Our birthdays are only 4 days apart.)

A part of me is grateful for having been given a wonderful year, but there's also a part of me that's grieving.. no, more like longing... longing for my lola's attention, the way she took care of me, the way she loved me. Oh how I miss her. :-(

I don't like having celebrations or parties when it's my birthday. I remember a couple of years back, I just booked a hotelroom somewhere and spent the whole day in bed thinking about my life, my dreams, my mishaps (haha), and the lessons I've learned over the years.

Last year, I spent my birthday at Golden Acres.  I spent my day with the elderly, I reached out to them, laughed with them. I will never bring back my lola but in that brief moment, I felt like she was with me.  I saw her loving smile in the eyes of the grandmothers that were there. I saw her in them.

However, I wanted my birthday this year to be different. I wanted to be a bit jovial. I wanted this year to be a year of positivity. A year of triumphs. A year of laughter. And what better way to do it than celebrate it in the Land of Smiles - Thailand.  So I celebrated my birthday in Bangkok. It was my second time to go there and somehow it felt like home.

The Highlights

Cheap Charlie's

I went to Cheap Charlie's. This place is always packed to the brim! The beers are ridiculuously cheap and the place has character. It was featured in Lonely Planet as being one of Bangkok's Institution. It's a nice place to people watch because it is situated in a sidestreet off of Sukhumvit (if I'm not mistaken). There are a lot of cool expats that hang around here. And because Cheap Charlie's doesn't tolerate prostititution, you will not see Thai hookers in this joint.

Cabbages and Condoms Resto

I wanted to have dinner elsewhere but since I can't be trusted with a map, I ended up in a different street that's far from where I initially wanted to go. Hahaha! So much for being 'Dora the Explorer'. Since it was getting late and I was getting hungry, I just settled for the first resto in plain sight. I had dinner at Cabbages and Condoms. Yes, it was the name that really caught my interest.

This sign will greet you once you leave the resto. Hehe, cool diba? =)

And last but not the least, I discovered this cool place that serves the best meals. The diner has a 70s feel to it. I can almost picture James Dean sitting in one of those chairs. Hehe. And the cool part about this place is that it has pool tables and a darts in one corner for people who wants to eat and at the same time hang out with their buds. There's also a red vintage car right smack in the middle of the place.

Umiikot-ikot yung car sa gitna tapos may music coming from the jukebox! Vintage much? Hehe

Naaliw ako ng sobra sa place na to so I ate brunch here for two consecutive days. Hehe. Kakatuwa yung ambience eh. The people were nice and the food was great.

This is how the place looks like from the outside. I grabbed this pic from their website.

And from what I recall, they were showing UFC re-runs nung time na kumakain ako so solb na solb talaga ko! Hehe!

3 Months Away

I will again be turning a year older this January. It's just a couple of months away. How and where I will spend it, I have no idea. But I am sure that this coming birthday of mine will be different from all the other birthdays I've had. I will still feel a bit sentimental, and I will try my best to keep it jovial but I am definitely sure that this one will be super special. *wink*

How about you, how do you celebrate your birthdays? Do you throw parties? Do you go out of town? What? Tell me! (Who knows, I might send you a gift or two. LOL)

Mo' Money, Mo' Problems

I went to Singapore last year with my college buddies and we visited some of the 'touristy' places in the area. One of which was the Fountain of Wealth in Suntec City.

The Fountain of Wealth (Chinese: 财富之泉) is listed by the Guinness Book of Records in 1998 as the largest fountain in the world. It is located in one of Singapore's largest shopping malls, Suntec City.

During certain periods of the day, the fountain is turned off and visitors are invited to walk around a mini fountain at the centre of the fountain's base for good luck. At night, the fountain is the setting for laser performances, as well as "live" song and laser message dedications between 8pm to 9pm daily. It is situated in such a way the fountain is the hub of the shopping mall. (source: wikipedia)

Yumaman na kaya yung porener na nasa likod ko?

Once you go near the fountain, you would see a small sign that would tell you what you need to do: Rumor has it that you need to go around the fountain three times with your hand touching the water for goodluck. I can't remember if you need to go clockwise or counter clockwise pero may ganung chorvaloo dun. Hehehe.

Parang may sirang tubo lang sa NAWASA noh? Hehehe

Dahil wala namang mawawala saken and I was there already, I decided to give it a try. I went around the fountain three times, just like what the sign said. It was noontime when we got to the place so you can just imagine how hot it was during that time. It was a good thing that the water from the fountain was cold.

--------------------------------------------------------------

It has already been a year since that day in the fountain. Did I become rich? Nope. Naging super duper wealthy ba ko after that incident? Hell no! But did I regret doing it? Of course not. If there's one thing that I learned from that experience is that it's taught me to hope. To hope for wonderful things to come. It may not be in the form of wealth, but it will be in the form of something that I will value and cherish. Health maybe. Or friends. Or in my case, love? (Hahaha, mushy na naman. LOL!)

People need to have a considerable (read: relative) amount of wealth to enjoy life. That is a fuck fact. But we shouldn't aim to have too much because we might end up neglecting all of the other things that make life worth-living. So what makes MY life worth-living? Hmmmmm... Let me count the ways:

1. The support of my friends. I am not blessed with a perfect life, that's why I am so thankful to my crazy yet caring friends for making my life bearable.
2. When my dad gives me the Sunday newspaper. That's his way of showing affection to me. He knows how much I love reading the news (especially the entertainment section, haha) that's why he never fails to buy newspaper on Sundays especially when he knows I'd pay them a visit. And his warm, genuine smile everytime I'd sleep in their bed. Priceless.

3. A kiss and an 'i love you' from my favorite niece. I know that I shouldn't play favorites but she's really the one closest to me! Hehe. She's the youngest amongst all my pamangkins and I love it when she hugs me and kisses me everytime I visit her - it makes me forget about my problems, even just for a day. :)

4. My mom's sermons about life and love. We recently had a talk about my life and she's given me good, practical advise about certain things. I am so thankful to have a mom as smart and as tough as her.

5. Quality time with my **SS. He cares for me like no one else does. The way he smiles at me, the way he reaches for my hand, the way he takes care of me. Hayyyyy. :-) I'll stop na before I make you guys puke because of my mushiness. Hahaha!

Have a great start of the week everyone! SMILE! :)

10 Signs He's Inlove

You've dated your fair share of women and have always enjoyed keeping your options open, but lately there's this one woman that has you wondering if she's " the one." In order to help you figure this out, I have compiled the following list of the top 10 ways to know you're in love.
10. You've forgotten your ex

More often than not, a breakup is followed by a significant amount of time spent thinking about your ex and wondering whether or not you made the right decision in going your separate ways. Depending on how long the two of you were together, these doubts can resurface again and again.

Ever since you met this new one, however, the thought of getting back together with your ex is the furthest thing from your mind. Come to think of it, you barely recall what you found so great about your ex in the first place.

9. You can't stop thinking about her.

You think about her all the time. You even go as far as reading her tweets and blogs everyday eventhough you are almost always together. It's just that you don't want to miss what her thoughts and feelings for the day are.

But it gets worse. You're out in the mall and you see something in a shop window and think about how much she would like that particular item, or you notice a poster for a show that she would love, but normally wouldn't even have looked twice at it.

If she's the last thing on your mind before you go to sleep and the first thing on your mind when you wake up — and you've even dreamed of her on a couple of occasions — then you don't really even need to read on to know if you're in love (but should anyway, just to be sure).

8. You (truly) care about her.

There is a reason why you don't really want to know too much about the chick you had a one-night stand with: You don't love her. When you're in love with a woman, you want to know all about her: who she is, what she thinks, what makes her laugh. You truly care about her and her feelings.

If you truly love a woman, you feel bad if she had a bad day or is upset about something. You don't try to cheer her up because you have to, but because you can't help it.

7. You find her quirks charming.

She laughs all the time - even for no reason at all! LOL! She sings herself silly, she shouts when she wants to and you don't get weirded out by these. In fact, you find these things cute and charming.

You like how she calls you by your complete name. You like how her eyes twinkle and how she gives off that silly grin when she thinks of something naughty.

She does and says things that make her different, and you like it. You can't quite put your finger on why, but it doesn't even matter. You like her just the way she is.

6. You have great chemistry.

You can't be in love with someone that you have no chemistry with. If you seem to always be on the same wavelength, and think in similar ways, that's a great sign. If you also generate enough heat to set off a five-alarm fire bell, then she is probably someone that you could fall in love with, if you aren't there already.

5. You don't notice other women as much.

Did you see that gorgeous blonde that just walked by? What do you mean, "no"?!?

Although you can't help noticing a beautiful woman when one walks by, when you're in love, some of them tend to slip under the radar, while others just pale in comparison to her. Furthermore, you don't seem to be flirting half as much as you used to.

You are slowly realizing that she's often the only woman in the room that matters, and for some reason that suits you just fine.

4. You love spending time with her

If you could only see and visit her everyday, you would. You don't mind braving the traffic in the south just to go all the way to her house up north. You sometimes leave the office early just so you can spend a couple of hours with her. It doesnt matter if you don't do anything spectacular. Just being in the same room with her, seeing her laugh, making her happy is enough to make your day.
Furthermore, when you're not together, you miss her and wish you were spending time together.

3. You don't mind compromising sometimes.

There was a time when it was your way or the highway, but with her it's different. Not that she asks you to, but you don't mind missing a day out in the firing range just to be with her. And you find yourself trying to incorporate her into your plans or altering them to accommodate her.

You also find yourself not putting up a fight when she wants to watch a Tagalog film. A TAGALOG FILM! F@ck! Haha!

2. Other priorities take a back seat.

Your ever-important "to do" list seems quite stagnant these days, as being with her always manages to render your other plans and obligations obsolete. What was it that you absolutely had to do by two o'clock again?

1. You start thinking about the future and she's in it.

It used to be that the future with a woman meant your date on Saturday night, but with this woman, the future seems infinite. Not only do you plan to see her this weekend, but you want to see her a year from now as well.

When planning your next vacation, you know you want to spend it with her, and not a random beach bunny you happen to meet while you're there. And eventhough Christmas is still a couple of months away, you are absolutely sure you want to spend it with her.
-= She's the one =-

If you are currently dating a woman that makes you act in any of the ways mentioned above, then you, my unpure friend, are seriously falling for her. It's time to put away your little black book, focus on her and enjoy all the wonderful moments ahead!

Love, Love, Love! Life is Beautifullllll! :) Hahahaha! Sorry for giving you too much cheese on a weekend. Ganun talaga e. Can't help it! LOL!
